A big thank you to Graham Brooks who joined us and told us all about life as a pilot.
Graham explained how he had become a pilot and showed us some of the different aeroplanes he had flown during his career. We were fascinated to see the inside of the cockpit and also watch a video taken from this place showing us a landing, whilst Graham talked us through what he would be doing.
He also demonstrated with a piece of paper what happens to the wings as air rushed over and under them.
Thank you Graham, we had a wonderful time and learnt lots.
This week we welcomed EasyJet Pilot, Graham Brooks who talked to children in both KS1 and KS2. The children enjoyed learning about what had inspired Graham to learn to fly and what a day in the life of a pilot involved. Graham showed us some fantastic pictures of what the weather looks like at 35,000ft and the inside of the cockpit. We even got the chance to learn how to take off and land a plane! I’m sure he has inspired a generation of budding pilots!
Year 2 loved making their very own healthy airport smoothies in Deign Technology this week. The children planned and prepared all of their own ingredients and then blended them together using a hand blender. The best part of all was tasting them!
Our Nursery children have been exploring airports too; they’ve been building models of airports with the bricks, playing some music for the airport lounge, working in the offices, driving the bus to the terminal, watching out for the planes to plan and working in the kitchens in the restaurant. Well done nursery!
Year 4 have begun looking at position and direction on a grid. In order to familiarise themselves with the axis and positions on a grid, we drew a human one on the floor. The children were then able to stand inside of the grid at the correct points and move appropriately when instructed.
We enjoyed our class visit on board the BA flight to New York! We were lucky enough to spend the morning with Mrs Cox, cabin crew for British airways, who spent time talking to us about the different roles at the airport. We each had a role to play and even had the opportunity to dress up! We had a fantastic morning and really enjoyed taking on our roles.
