Science game – ” The Magic carpet with overflowing balloons”

Science game – ” The Magic carpet with overflowing balloons”

Activity description:

        The activity began by presenting a story related to the curious Csuvi Kuvik owl about the flying balloons. The owl asked children to help with the storytelling. The children were announced to perform a fun experiment, namely “Magic Carpet” with air-blown balloons.
Preschools of the combined group are fascinated by unusual science activities that teach new elements and keep them in suspense. Therefore, a fun experiment was created, which gave them curiosity and which made them very happy, namely: inflating balloons with confetti – observing the penetration of air inside the balloon; observing air-inflated balloons that, due to their very low weight, have easily escaped on a moving surface.

The Combined Hungarian Group (3-6/7 years old)

Aims:

  • to experience the change in balloon volume
  • to perform balancing walk with balloons filled with water
  • to compare the state of balloons in different ways

The experiment goes through the following steps:
1. The children fill the balloons with water and carry them to the kindergarten yard
2. They perform balancing with balloons filled with water over a steady distance
3. They drag the balloons with water (asphalt roll) and break the balloons into a funny race

While children perform the experimental stages, they receive scientific knowledge about the effect of water and air in ballooning.

Science experiment – Helium balloons – ”Magical Balloons”

Science experiment – Helium balloons – ”Magical Balloons”

The big group (5-6 years old)

Objectives:

  • Describe the balloons;
  • Group the balloons by color;
  • Launch in the air the helium balloons, in the established order.

Activity short-description:

The activity begins by presenting the flags of the partner countries, Romania, England, France, Italy, which are involved into the scence project, Let’s Fly High in Europe”The children are informed that, together with the mascot of the kindergarten, they will make the flag of Romania in colorful balloons, filled with a gas called helium, which will make them rise up in order to be launched so, that they travel to the partners with thoughts of friendship.

(The mascot of our kindergarten is the little kid, which is the character of the story “The goat with three kids ” written by Ion Creangă. Story says that ”it was once a goat who had three kids. The eldest kid and the middle one were misbehaving; but here’s the little kid who was diligent and dutiful. It thus: ‘ there are five fingers on one hand and not all resemble one another…”)

Science Experiment – Swelling of the balloon with sodium bicarbonate and vinegar

Science Experiment – Swelling of the balloon with sodium bicarbonate and vinegar

Objective: to swell a balloon with sodium bicarbonate and vinegar

Criteria for success: 1. Name of work materials; 2. Compliance stages, presented by teachers, in order to achieve the proposed experiment.

Description of Work: The didactic activity begins by presenting mascot, Smart Smurf, who came to visit middle group (4-5 years), to see the little researchers. Preschoolers are informed that they will create a fun experiment called “balloon droll” and they identify and name the experiment necessary materials. It explains the steps working and protection rules to prevent possible accidents due to running an experiment. Proposed experiment is conducted.

Materials: plastic bottle, baloon, funnel, sodium bicarbonate, vinegar.

The experiment shall be carried out in 6 steps:
1. Pour 2-3 tablespoons of sodium bicarbonate in the flask using a funnel (we made a funnel of paper).
2. Pour ½ cup of vinegar into the bottle.
3. Carefully the flask to the bottle so that it does not fall off the content in the bottle.
4. We quickly turn the flask so that the baking soda to fall into the bottle
5. Watch how to inflate balloon, but we see also the reaction of the children because it will be one of surprise, curiosity or amusement.
6. Explain to the children how baking soda sodium in combination with vinegar creates a chemical reaction, the result of which shall be liberated gas  and inflate balloon.

The mascot of the project Let’s Fly High in Europe, into our kindergarten, is SMART smurf, who is very good at Science. The SMART smurf travels from class to class, from one country to another, to study flight machines. In his journey he has a diary with him, where he recovers children’s stories about flying machines and adds pictures of them.
