VE Day Celebrations – May 8th 2020

May 8th 1945 marked the end of World War Two in Europe. The day was one of celebration in Britain and saw people coming together to enjoy the victory in streets up and down the country.

The corona-virus outbreak meant people commemorated the 75th anniversary of VE Day within their own homes.

As a school community, we united together with our nation to celebrate and mark this historic day in a very memorable way.

Thank you for sending in your photographs of your wonderful VE Day celebrations and activities.

Aircraft in World War I

Aircraft in World War I

Jacob loves learning about history. He was delighted to bring in his book from home which shows some of the old aircraft that was used in the World War I. He was amazed to see that some of them were very similar to the aircraft designed and made by the Wright brothers in 1903.

Airport Police arrive at school!

Airport Police arrive at school!

We’ve had a couple of visitors in Nursery this week.  Two Policemen from the airport came to see us and tell us what they do to help.  They brought spare uniform and equipment for us to try and also let us sit in their police car and switch on the sirens and lights.

They also told us about the police helicopter that they use to get around the region very quickly.

Using a compass and positional vocabulary

Using a compass and positional vocabulary

Year 3 took part in an outdoor learning session linked to maths and airshows. The children used positional vocabulary to direct their peers around a grid using eight points of a compass. They developed their knowledge of how to use a compass to find North. The know that pilots in all aircraft need to be able to use a compass!

Airshows around the world

Airshows around the world

In Year 1 today we had a trip around the world! Each table has been set up as one of the seven continents. The children made their way round looking at different maps, artefacts, videos and foods from countries in the continent. We wrote down a fact about every continent. We found out lots of new and exciting facts about continents. Our favourite part was taste testing foods from around the world!
