Positional Vocabulary

Positional Vocabulary

Year 3 took part in an outdoor learning session linked to space and maths. The children used positional vocabulary to direct their peers around a grid using eight points of a compass. They developed their knowledge of how to use a compass to find North.

Light up the rocket!

Today Year 2 were set the challenge of lighting a bulb using a battery, two wires and a bulb. The children persevered well and with only a couple of clues were all able to successfully light the bulb! The children then used these to light their rockets! Great team work Year 2!

Rocket Angles – Maths

Rocket Angles – Maths

Year 5 discovered different types of angles in maths this week. We used art straws to create our own rocket shapes and diagrams that included the correct amounts of acute, obtuse, reflex and right angles that were needed. We then labelled our complete rocket diagrams with the correct angles. Well done Year 5.

Rocket Launch – Year 2 and Year 5

Rocket Launch – Year 2 and Year 5

Year 2 and Year 5 enjoyed working with David, a local scientist, to build rockets. They worked in small groups using card tubes for the body of their rockets. Using tape, they sealed the end so air couldn’t escape and made fins to help make the rocket fly further. The best part was flying the rockets ….. what fun we all had!

Fun with Rockets – Year 1 and Year 6

Fun with Rockets – Year 1 and Year 6

Today we had a visit from David the scientist. The children from Year 6 and Year 1 came together to build their very own rockets. The children were split into groups of 4 and 5 and used card tubes for the body of their rocket. Then, they used sticky tape and cardboard fins to help their rocket to fly as high and as far as possible.

Blast off with Year 3 and Year 4

Blast off with Year 3 and Year 4

Today, Year 3 and Year 4 were able to become real life scientists. With help from David, our scientist friend, the children were able to build their very own rockets and launch them on the school yard. The children used card tubes for the body of their rocket. First, they needed to seal the end so that air pressure could not escape. Then, they used sticky tape and cardboard fins to help make their rocket fly further. Finally we gathered outside to launch all of the rockets.
